History:

Drow were historically servants of Lloth from a faraway plane before the creation of Aelisus. As history had it, they served faithfully. They sacrificed their own to become driders to worship and revere the Spider Queen, Lloth. In this realm, Halla was also persuasive and resourceful, using her immense power to govern the realm of death. These two goddesses held quite a rivalry in such fashion, with Halla building undead armies and Lloth growing mighty armies of cunning, intelligent drow and drider assassins and mages. When the two clashed, Lloth was able to press the advantage, as the minor forces of good in that world prioritized the destruction of Halla and undeath over Lloth and her subterranean people. When Halla was sealed into what was supposed to be her forever tomb, she sent out a decree. The world would end, and any that succumb to death would join her in the next realm. Lloth scoffed and reigned for centuries before the coming of Aelisus and the shattering of the other realms. During this time, many servants of death preached the end of times, stressing for those who wished to see the next life end their own and join Halla. Many followers of death obliged, including a significant number of Drow. Halla promised to supplant Lloth to her faithful and allow them to continue their practices and listen to their prayers as if she was Lloth. When Halla washed ashore in Aelisus after the splitting of the worlds, she kept her promise and released her servants back into life. This would be a small investment compared to the glory they would bestow upon her in the new world. The highest-ranking Drow among the deserters of Lloth in their old world was the first to lead her family and people to be taken by Halla into the new world. Her name was Vilowyn of House Cael, and she had an eye for power among her own. Brought to a new land with her family and many other Drow dissidents of Lloth, she discovered Aelisus' Underdark, filled with many vile creatures. Clearing out the most extensive cave system she could find, she established the Drow city and named it Caelwyn, after her house and name. Caelwyn was well established when the Empire, led by Sidr, took hold of the Aelisian mainland after several decisive victories. Promised with power and protection and few viable options, Vilowyn allowed the Empire to occupy Caelwyn in exchange for continued rule over it. At the same time, her house did not have to pay the usual Empire taxes. She would enforce the Empire's laws in solidarity and maintain a firmer grasp over the prominent denizens in Caelwyn. She could then begin to extend her reach into the Underdark.

Usual Height:

Drow tend to be shorter than humans. Relatively same size as surface elves, but potentially even thinner as the resources in the Underdark are scarce.

Hometown:

Caelwyn

Religion:

Drow primarily worship Halla. As their journey to Aelisus resulted in choosing Halla over Lloth in the old world, she has promised to answer prayers to Lloth, and takes worshippers of Lloth as her own. This has resulted in many Drow worshiping Lloth and Halla, with Halla accepting all sacrifices in either god's name. Drow do not take lightly any slights against their religion, and doing so will almost certainly result in violent action. Drow who do not worship Halla or Lloth are likely to be outsiders and shunned by Drow society if they choose to forsake their heritage.

Physical Features:

Drow are physically smaller than most humanoids their size. They are much more lithe, fit for digging through tight corridors in the underdark. While there are some exceptions, most Drow tend to be rogues and mages, and as such do not grow much muscle mass.

Society:

Drow are haughty and arrogant, despite their lack of size. The overwhelming majority of Drow are extremely well learned and skillful in an art, whatever it may be. Any Drow who fails to excel is either turned into a Drider or meets the demise at the hands of another Drow, usually due disdain that their culture has for the weak. There are virtually no disfigured or disabled Drow, as they would be culled as children and used as sacrifices or turned into Driders.

Relationships with Other Races:

Drow are typically cunning and not likely to openly create enemies of other races unless they have proper support from their own people. They work with other sentient species of the Underdark in order to maintain a politically strong grasp. Drow hate Elves and see them as weak enemies to be destroy to please Lloth or Halla. They think most Demi-humans like Gnomes and Halflings are dismissible and useless, and are unthreatened by them.
